Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Review

- Spoiler Warning Starts-

Skip to bottom for final review.

It has been awhile! if I'm being honest I forgot the website I used to create this blog but I'm back! and we are starting with yes Harry Potter.

I became a "Potterhead" a few short months ago but I do have a very wide range of facts and parts of the book with me. I debated on if I was gonna read Cursed Child but I had to read the story considering I knew probably the biggest spoiler of the play, I wanted to see the story behind it.

It wasn't terrible, however I can see why so many people dislike reading the play. Some of those people definably forget that they're reading a play not a book, But on the other hand while reading it almost felt like the magic wasn't there because it wasn't written by J. K. Rowling. They way the characters acted as well seemed slightly off even if our golden trio are in their 30s/40s a few things are questionable. Like Ron seemed useless and confused the entire play. During the first alternate reality I don't like how Hermione basically became Snape. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Snape hater but I doubt Hermione could be as mean as she was considering the insults she and her friends face during their Hogwarts years.

The "Hell" as described by Scorpius Malfoy, It had me well shook. Nothing like seeing Umbridge back in action. In this reality you begin to wonder, would Voldemort really forgive the Malfoys? would he have figured out Draco lied in Malfoy Manor and would Narcissa have to lie in the forest or would Harry really have been dead?

Another big thing I've seen on social media is would Harry Potter who lived under a staircase for 11 years, and went through everything he did with the Dursley's tell his son that He wished he wasn't his son? It is sort of justified in the play with Harry not having James to show him how to be a dad, but he did have Vernon as an example on how not to treat your boys, Arthur Weasley, and all the Weasleys who had children before him and Ginny to talk to and get advice from.

I wish we did have a little look at Teddy Lupin, Neville and luna. We have one mention of Neville and how in the Voldemort reality He was killed as well.

A couple things that confused me:

The marauders map and the invisibility cloak. Now in Cursed Child McGonagall was not able to see Albus and Scorpius while under the Invisibility cloak. I thought a little on this because as I'm sure you know the Marauders Map was created by Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew and James Potter. obviously the Map itself is a piece of impressive magic especially for a couple Gryffindor boys still in school, but could the invisibility cloak be seen on the Map? in cursed child? no.... However I believe in Prisoner of Azkaban at some point Remus says that you can still be seen even under the invisibility cloak. This is a clear reason of why Cursed Child isn't seen as canon.

I'm curious as to how Delphi became such a powerful witch. She never went to Hogwarts so where and when did she get the books? Her upbringing in general is questionable. If she was born in Malfoy Manor and practically every death eater is at the battle of Hogwarts, who took care of her? and what happened to her when Both her mom and dad were killed in Battle? Did the Malfoys have to pawn her off somewhere? She used a Confundus charm on many wizards and witches and managed to slip under the radar.

I really loved Scorpius Malfoy, He was just the cutest little nerd! As for Albus i feel he was a little too emotional for an 11/12 year old. I also think James Sirius and Lily Luna wouldn't have ignored their brother, like yeah James S. is a mini Fred & George, James & Sirius but if it came down to it i think he would have tried more to be there for his brother.

Final Review:

I would recommend reading this if you love Harry Potter like I do, you don't even have to consider it canon however it is nice to be back at Hogwarts falling in love with Little Potters, Weasleys and Malfoy. Reading it did almost feel like a fan fiction but fun nonetheless, Seeing Harry and Draco interact, Ron and Hermione, it's all interesting and you never know if you will end up loving it or not. Go out, read it your self then make an opinion because I'm glad I didn't totally ignore it because of how many fans disliked it and refuse it to be canon. I hope someday I'll get to see the play live because I hear its phenomenal in real live and for a play on stage they still have Magic and everything. It's going to be really cool to see how they do it.

8/10
