Week 5: For this project, my goal was a sunflower and I made it with the leaves falling off. I also figured making the center circles would take forever so I used the mouse x & y to draw in the center with my mouse.
Getting the petals how I wanted them was the hardest part because I couldn't get the angles right for some of them but eventually figured it out for the most part.
Week 8: For this assignment, I played around with colors some more and tried to make my favorite colors in the shades I wanted. I also played around with the 3d shape of a box and getting it to turn the way I wanted. I also added some circles because this project reminds me of dice.
The mint box is the dice rolling and the background is the dice with the actual divets in it for the number. I'd like to try and readjust the background and make the box have the circles on it.
Week 15: Project
On Instagram, I follow a lot of digital artists, and one reason I do aside from enjoying their work is the statements they are able to convey in an aesthetically pleasing way. Over the past year especially, I've wanted to try and create works like that myself but haven't had the time or resources I needed to do so but using p5.js I was able to get very close. My work says "strong mujer" with "mujer" being in spanish meaning woman, because so many times I've doubted my own feelings, thoughts, and opinions for being a Hispanic woman, and woman in general. I constantly feel like my voice doesn't belong in so many conversations, which is not true and shouldn't be the case. Seeing so many artists using simple phrases or quotes from strong women I look up to is empowering to me and I love to share it.
I wanted to use colors and fonts that I myself loved enough to share on my own social media and could even see friends or strangers share as well. This is also why I have the image background that waves because I've seen that across many popular pieces in the past few months. A piece in particular that I feel shares a very similar expression is this piece by Sue Yun that's a quote from Vice President-Elect Kamala
Harris. Over the year we have seen so many negative and harmful tragedies, events, and words shared; digital artwork has been a tool for all, as many across the world and this country in particular live online as it is but even more so during the pandemic by staying in. Digital Artists have created so many positive pieces to bring comfort and peace to many, as well as created informational pieces to spread important information (ex. voting information, etc.) across social media platforms with aesthetically pleasing pieces. The last aspect of my work was some circles sliding across the word strong to highlight it in a fun way.
